Canada's Grandest
Casino Cathedrals

Some casino floors are rooms; a few are cathedrals — vast, vaulted, built to make you look up. This is a guide to the Canadian hotels that go big: the border giants, the island landmark, the First Nations resorts on the prairie and the mountain's edge. We walk every acre of floor, sleep in the rooms and write the review we wished we'd read first. Five hotels, five clear verdicts.

How We Judge

How we measure a floor built to impress.

I

The great floor

How the casino performs at scale — the sheer size, the depth of the table pit, the high-limit salon, the poker room, the slots — and whether all that grandeur is well-run and enjoyable or just cavernous and loud.

II

The rooms

Whether the hotel stands up to the floor it serves: the quality of the rooms and suites, the beds, the views and the service you'd remember even if you never placed a bet.

III

Dining & the extras

The steakhouse, the arena, the spa, the pool, the show — the big-ticket extras that turn a night at a grand floor into a full-scale weekend.

IV

Location & value

Where it sits, how far you'll travel, and whether all that scale is honest value once the weekend is paid for and the chips are cashed.

Side by Side

All five, measured together.

Good to Know

Grand-floor questions, answered.

Which of these casino-hotels is the best overall?

For scale done well it's Caesars Windsor at 9.3 — one of the country's biggest floors, a genuine 5,000-seat arena and two towers of rooms on the Detroit River. Nowhere else in the guide pairs this much floor with this much to do.

Are the casino floors really adults-only?

Yes. Every venue in this guide runs a strict 21+ door policy with photo ID checked at entry. Families can still book the hotels, but the gaming floor itself is adults-only, no exceptions.

Is 21 the legal gambling age in Canada?

No. The 21+ figure is the door policy we found at these venues, not the law. Canada's legal minimum is set province by province — 18 or 19 — so always confirm the venue's own current rules before you travel.

Do you take bookings or run any of these casinos?

No. Coin & Cathedral is an independent editorial guide. We hold no funds, take no bookings and run no gaming, and we are not an online casino. Every rating is our own opinion, paid for by no one.

How accurate are the room counts and casino details?

They're approximate and they shift — these big properties renovate, expand and rebrand often. Treat our figures as a rough guide and confirm the latest rooms, floors and rates with the hotel before you travel.

Grand should still mean fun.

However vast the floor, the casino should be entertainment first — the spectacle, not the stakes. We only recommend playing within your means, and every venue here is strictly adults-only, with ID checked at the door.
